Craven Castle - Letters to home

[In Maribelle's desk drawer, underneath her empty revolver, there is a pile of letters. Two are not sealed, but are addressed to Exalt Chrom and Princess Lissa.

On the top of the pile, however, there is a note.


To whomever might open this drawer,

Here I have laid some last messages to be delivered to the recipients in the event of my passing. If you should be searching my desk as part of the usual treatment of suspects at trial, please leave them be. I understand that these may be difficult to deliver, but if any chance arises I beg that you take it.

Craven Castle- Letter to Nanami Chiaki

To my dear Chiaki,

I am so very sorry that I have caused you this pain, for if you are reading this I am likely dead. I did not wish for you to experience such a thing, but in a battle such as this sacrifices may be necessary. I am a Shepherd and I am proud to risk my life in the defence of the innocent. Death is a risk I am prepared for.

Chiaki, I must tell you that I have truly treasured our friendship during the time we had together. You are a wonderful young woman, in possession of intelligence and charm, and I trust you shall do brilliant things with your life. I would have loved to play games with you again and I hope we had time to have a frank discussion before my time came.

I believe you are stronger than you think. I believe you can win- not this game, which no one can win, but the battle against those who have attacked us and wish to continue attacking us. Do not falter, do not give in and do burn their dreams to ash. Live, in spite of the path they have laid out before you. Attack, in spite of the chains they have wrapped around you.

I shall be watching your actions with great interest.

Craven Castle - Letter to Kuzuryuu Fuyuhiko

Fuyuhiko Kuzuryuu,

The two of us have had some difficulties and disagreements over the past few weeks, I shall confess, but I felt it necessary to leave you some message should I die. You see, I need to apologise for breaking my word with you. Know that I had no wish to die, for I truly detest making anyone grieve for me. But the life of a Shepherd is full of risks and these things may happen on occasion. You may cry if you wish, but know that such outbursts are hardly gentlemanly. A man of your station should maintain some composure.

I have grown very fond of you, despite your many faults (and, I confess, my own). Therefor, I must rather hypocritically order you to survive this ordeal. Please take care of dear Chiaki, I fear she shall take this rather hard. It may be harsh to say so, but be strong and protect her, whatever you might be feeling. Be strong and destroy this game. Lay waste to our enemy so that they may never rise again, for that is the only solution that lies before us. If you find yourself doubting your ability to do so, think of how I have complete faith in you and am never wrong.

I have written two letters to my liege Chrom and my beloved Lissa. I understand that there are none in the castle whose homes are in Ylisse and so it may be difficult for my words to reach them. But if any method shows itself, can I ask you to make use of it? Perhaps the Host may help, there's nothing in the contents of the letters that puts him or the game at risk.

Take care, Fuyuhiko. In this regard, I must ask that you not follow my lead.

Craven Castle- Letter to Athena Cykes

To my dear Athena,

I apologise that I can be of no further use to you or the others. Hopefully my death has done some good, though I hardly wished to pass on after surviving so long. I entrust the rest of this battle to you and our comrades. As I know you to be an intelligent, capable woman, I can rest easy in this regard. Don't allow them to beat you, don't allow anyone to make you stay quiet or be ignored. It seems we are in an awful mess but that merely means you have to create an even bigger one.

My staves may still prove useful to you and the others, though I know I've been of little use as a healer in my time here. I entrust them to you. The Recover staff is useless to those of you left in the castle, as it requires a high level of skill, training and practice to use. The Balmwood staff is a tad simpler and can be a beginner's staff if need be. I know this sort of thing is unfamiliar to you all, but if anyone wishes to attempt to use them and practice, they have my blessing. If I had to pick someone suited to the classes that may use a staff, I would pick Glinda, Maya or Kaoru. It is really a matter of willpower and focus, at the end of the day.

Please be safe, Athena, I am relying on you. Don't let the others get carried away with avenging me against my killer, I am sure they were only following our only choice. If my death could save Lissa's life, and the lives of eighteen others, then I shall meet it happily.

But please, finish this soon.
